Foreshadowing

A foreshadow is the representation of a concept that is later manifested in history. Biblical Examples: Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his only son Isaac in the book of Genesis, was a foreshadow of God sending his only Son to be sacrificed for humanity’s sin, as found in the historical records of the New Testament. The Old Testament prophet Jonah, who spent three days inside the belly of a sea creature, was a foreshadow of when Jesus Christ spent three days in Sheol, located in the heart of the earth, before being resurrected from the dead. Other biblical examples exist. (Hebrews 11:17-19; Matthew 12:40)
